Romanian President Traian Băsescu on a visit to Israel

While on a visit to Israel, Romanian President Traian Băsescu met his Israeli counterpart Shimon Peres on Monday.

While on a visit to Israel, Romanian President Traian Băsescu met his Israeli counterpart Shimon Peres on Monday.

In his welcome address, President Peres highly praised Romania's efforts aimed at encouraging growth and the country's role as NATO and EU member.

Mr. Peres pointed out his country's interest in a peaceful Middle East while mentioning the efforts made to ensure growth in the region.

President Traian Băsescu was also expected to meet Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu later on Monday.

Romanian President Traian Băsescu went to Yad Vashem, the-country's official memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust.

A wreath-laying ceremony was celebrated at the Hall of Names, a memorial to the 6 million Jews who perished during the Holocaust.

The visit on Monday also included a signing ceremony of a co-operation agreement between the Romanian Presidency and Yad Vashem officials on the fight against discrimination, intolerance and antisemitism, RADIO ROMANIA reported.
