NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana reaffirms that he will announce whether or not he will run for President of Romania after his term as head of the North Atlantic alliance is over. In his view, a future president should work with political parties and represent the interests of all.
Mircea Geoana: This is the year of independents. There is disappointment with the parties. Essentially, I am absolutely determined - if I run - to run as an independent, because I believe that a president of the Romanian nation must represent all Romanians. No party color. I think you need someone to work with the parties, but who represents the interests of all. For me, there are no PSD Romanians, PNL Romanians, USR Romanians, UDMR Romanians, AUR Romanians or whatever. We are all Romanians. That is why I am thinking more and more seriously about running as an independent candidate for the Romanian Presidency.
The statements were made in Ramnicu Valcea, where Mircea Geoana launched his book "The Battle for Romania's Future. The thoughts of a Romanian at the top of NATO".
