Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has announced, today, that he has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Mihai Tudose and that he has appointed Defense Minister Mihai Fifor as interim Prime Minister.
President also said he would convene for this Wednesday consultations with political parties to form the new Government.
Klaus Iohannis: "Prime Minister Tudose has resigned and I accepted his resignation. This is a situation I am deeply dissatisfied with and it is a worrying situation. One year after the elections we already have two SDP Governments that have failed. Now, obviously there is a need for a government to shorten as much as possible this situation of uncertainty. I want us to have a quick procedure that will lead to the establishment of a new government, because this political uncertainty must not to degenerate into political instability and, more importantly, I want to prevent possible negative economic consequences of this crisis, again generated within the SDP. After the resignation of Prime Minister Tudose, I have appointed Minister Fifor as interim to run the Government. And in order to have the fastest procedure possible and as far as I am concerned, I decided to convene consultations with the parliamentary parties for tomorrow. Right now I will send invitations to these consultations. Thank you".
