According to the White House press release, the two leaders will celebrate 20 years since Romania became a member of NATO, and President Biden will thank President Iohannis for hosting the US military in Romania and acknowledge the many contributions that Romania, a staunch NATO ally, has made to the security of NATO's eastern flank, particularly in the Black Sea region.
The White House says the two leaders will underline their continued support for Ukraine as it defends itself against the Russian aggression. The two presidents will also review the many areas in which Romania and the United States are working together, including energy, economic cooperation and shared democratic values.
Tomorrow evening, President Iohannis will attend the Atlantic Council's 2024 Distinguished International Leadership Awards ceremony. The President of Romania will be the Atlantic Council's highest honour, quote: "For his outstanding career of exemplary leadership of Romania and his role as a European and transatlantic leader", the quote ends.
Among those receiving the Atlantic Council's high honour tomorrow will also be General Christopher Cavoli, supreme commander of Allied Forces Europe, and Gina Raimondo, US Secretary of Commerce.
