Romanian Patriarchy has put on the market a new type of candle which, according to church representatives, “has the specific characteristics of orthodox religion”.
Called “Your help for the Cathedral Mântuirii Neamului”, the object of worship has a burning time of 60 hours and can be bought from the church shops, for 7 lei.
The candle label contains an image with the Cathedral Mântuirii Neamului pattern and the metal cap is engraved with the stylized patriarchal cross, informs the official site of the Patriarchy.
Romanian Patriarchy sustains the necessity of this official candle because there are on the market candles of different forms and colors, “inappropriate for the orthodox religion”.
According to the Patriarchy, some of these have glued on them little icons, which are “discarded and desecrated ” after burning.
As the name of the candle suggests, a part of the amount collected from the sales will be donated for the Cathedral Mântuirii Neamului building.
In the churches within the Bucharest Archdiocese there is since the last year also the small model of candle, with a burning time of 16 hours, which costs 3 lei.
