Romania will hold for the first time, starting today, the command of a NATO naval warefare unit which will coordinate military ships from five countries. Missions will take place in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean.
RRA Correspondent Sorin Cealera: "Romanian Naval Forces officially take over today the command of the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 2 (SNMCMG2), that will gather military ships from Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Spain and Turkey. SNMCMG2 is subordinated to NATO's Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM).
SNMCMG2 will act to ensure immediate response capacity at NATO level, to increase interoperability between allied naval forces and to promote the image of the North Atlantic Alliance.
