Romanian Anticorruption Prosecutors have solved over 3,800 files in 2017, which is a record since the establishment of this institution, announced on Wednesday, 28 February, DNA’s Chief Prosecutor, Laura Codruta Kovesi, while presenting the report on DNA’s work in 2017.
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis congratulated the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA), for working effectively in the front line of the anti-corruption fight.
RRA Reporter Oana Bâlă: "DNA Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi said that 2017 was a difficult year, when anti-corruption struggle was strongly questioned, and public budgets affected by corruption.
Last year, DNA solved about 3,800 files, studied over 12 million documents and heard more than 23,000 people.
According to DNA Chief Prosecutor, 2017 was also a year of challenges, of unprecedented attacks on the institution and attempts to amend legislation.
Laura Codruţa Kovesi ensured that the DNA is opposing steps aimed at weakening anti-corruption legislation and changing status of independence for magistrates.
Present at this report’s presentation, President Klaus Iohannis congratulated DNA for last year's work and said DNA is an effective institution standing at the forefront of the anti-corruption fight.
Head of State noted the attempts to destabilize DNA's credibility and the clear attempt to subordinate Justice to Politics, and mentioned that, in his opinion, these actions are unlikely to succeed.
Klaus Iohannis believes that citizens want a dignified Romania and a fair Justice, where those who place themselves above the law answer for their deeds".
