Romanian Ministers present on Monday in Brussels presented in various committees of the European Parliament the priorities in their fields of activity during Romania’s EU Council Presidency. These include consolidating the banking union, increasing drinking water quality, combating climate change.
RRA Reporter Amalia Bojescu, reporting from Brussels: "Romania’s EU Council Presidency focuses on the citizen, and one of the priorities is European cohesion, with an emphasis on the equal treatment of all citizens.
This is the message delivered in Brussels by Romanian Minister of Public Finances, Eugen Teodorovici: "We, current EU Presidency, must pursue the same rules, applicable to all Member States and European citizens, to think about solutions for the entire EU, not just for one part or another (...). I am convinced that Romania will act strictly in the European interest".
Romanian Minister of Waters and Forests, Ioan Deneş, assured that progress will be made on the files taken over from previous EU Presidencies. One targets drinking water quality and the other concerns reuse of wastewater. Ioan Deneş: "In the context of a real crisis of water resources in the EU, we are discussing (...) about how water from sewage treatment plants can be reused in agriculture, industry and other fields."
As for the Romanian Ministry of Environment, priority is to combat climate change and protect biodiversity. Minister Grațiela Gavrilescu: "We have to have a common target to keep the average annual temperature rise below 2 degrees, about 1.5 degrees Celsius. This is an extremely difficult thing to do, because it means titanic work and projects to be implemented in all Member States and beyond. It takes a global pact".
On Tuesday, other Romanian Ministers will present in front of MEPs Romania's EU Council Presidency priorities in the areas it manages in the coming period".
