The law related to the amending and the supplementing of the Labour Code was promulgated by President Traian Băsescu on Thursday and was mentioned in a press release posted on the site of the administration of the president.
According to the future Labour Code, employers could hire staff within forty five days after collective lay offs had been done and could make cuts counting on skills related criteria.
Likewise, short-term labour contracts may be concluded for a period of up to three years instead of two as stated by the former piece of legislation.
On 8 March, at the joint meeting of the Chambers of the Parliament, the executive body took the responsibility for the bill related to the amendments of the Labour Code.
As a consequence, the opposition filed a motion of censure that was finally rejected.
Then, Social-democrats and Liberals notified the Constitutional Court which decided that the forecast stated by the new bill is constitutional.
Prime-Minister Emil Boc explained the need for greater flexibility in labour relations and for relating the Romanian legislation to the European one.
