Romanian Lieutenant General Daniel Petrescu, Deputy Chief of Defense Staff, has been decorated, on 1 October, with the "Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, Commander" by the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda. Event has taken place during a ceremony organized by the Romanian Embassy in Warsaw on the occasion of marking 100 years of diplomatic relations between Romania and Poland.
Decoration of a Romanian general by the President of Poland represents recognition, at bilateral level, of the importance of the military dimension of the Romanian-Polish Strategic Partnership and, at the same time, contributes to the promotion of Romania's interests in the international environment, reads Romanian Defense Staff in a press release.
Military cooperation between the armies of the two countries is a very close one. Romanian Army participates in Poland with an anti-aircraft defense detachment, as part of the US-led NATO Battle Group, and Poland participates with a detachment in the structure of the 26th Infantry Battalion „Neagoe Basarab” of the South East Multinational Brigade in Craiova.
Possible future Romanian Chief of Defense
According to legislation in force and the position he currently holds, Lieutenant General Daniel Petrescu is the main candidate to take over, from January 1, 2020, the position of Romanian Chief of Defense.
Most likely, General Daniel Petrescu will also coordinate the December 1 parade, on Romania’s National Day, according to a custom set over the past four years by the current Chief of Defense, General Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă.
