The European Union has activated the Civil Protection Mechanism at the request of the authorities in Greece, which is facing raging wildfires.
Romania, Italy, France and the Czech Republic have sent firefighters to fight the blaze, which has also engulfed the suburbs of the capital Athens.
The authorities in Bucharest said that Romanian firefighters in Greece are working to put out this dry vegetation and forest fire near Varnava, located in the prefecture of Attica.
The intervention is extremely difficult due to high temperatures, dense smoke and strong winds, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said.
According to reports, the flames also reached the courtyard of the National Observatory in Athens.
