Yesterday was Romanian Firefighters' Day. The Battle of Spirii Hill is commemorated on this occasion, a battle which took place in 1848, in Bucharest, between the Firefighter Company, led by Captain Pavel Zaganescu, and an army corps of the Ottoman Empire.
In addition to the usual missions, firefighters deal with special situations every month.
Reporter: Adrian Lungu - Firefighters intervene annually in thousands of emergencies, most for extinguishing fires and saving lives. In Salaj, in addition to the already known missions, firefighters face hundreds of unusual cases every year: animals falling into wells, hundreds of vegetation fires, but also other activities that involve dangerous work.
Sometimes, firefighters are attacked even by those they rescue. That is what happened a few days ago in Salaj, where a crew intervened to put out a fire. A man set his house on fire and then attacked those who had come to save his property; and it is not the only example of this kind.
