Romanian F16s start Air Policing Missions under national command

The 12 F-16s of the Romanian Air Force, deployed at Fetești Air Base 86, start today Air Policing missions under national command.

Official ceremony to commission these aircraft has taken place this morning at Air Base Borcea, Călărași County, in the presence of Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă and Defense Minister Gabriel Leş.

Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă: Today is a very important day for the Romanian military aviation because the most performing aircraft become operational for all types of mission, which proves that Romania is a security provider in the south-eastern flank of NATO.

RRA Reporter Andrei Şerban: Endowment of the Romanian Army will continue with allocation of 2% of GDP, Prime Minister stated, expressing hope that Romania will become a European defense hub.

Until now, Romanian Air Force has done this service with MIG airplanes, Minister of National Defense, Gabriel Leş, said in an interview for AGERPRES. Romania wishes to continue to purchase modern aircraft and also wishes that upgrade of aircraft takes place in Romania, so that future investments return to the Romanian defense industry, Minister of National Defense said.

RRA Reporter Clementina Tudor: F-16s have undergone the operationalization process, first phase for the Air Force mission under national command, and will continue the process to achieve ultimate operational capability.

In order to be able to carry out air policing missions under NATO command, F16 Squadron has to go through the NATO certification process.
