Romanian EU Council Presidency successfully completed, in the first three weeks since taking over, two topics of interest in the field of Agriculture and Fisheries: political trilogues of 22 January for the proposals of transposing recommendations on swordfish, and measures in the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM).
In the next period, under the Romanian EU Presidency, procedures will be concluded and will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
- Regulation amending Regulations (EU) No 1305/2013 and (EU) No 1307/2013 as regards certain rules on direct payments and support for rural development in respect of the years 2019 and 2020;
- Directive on combating unfair trading practices;
- Regulation on definition, presentation and labelling of spirit drinks, use of names of spirit drinks in presentation and labelling of other foodstuffs and protection of geographical indications for spirit drinks.
Romanian Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Petre Daea, presented, on 22-23 January, Romania’s EU Presidency priorities and program for the next six months, in front of European Parliaments’ specialized committees. Petre Daea stated that EU Common Fisheries Policy is extremely important, both through its internal dimension, which contributes to the sustainable management of fish stocks and to promotion of welfare and cultural identity of EU local communities, and through its external dimension.
