Romanian diplomat in Afghanistan killed in terrorist attack

A representative of the Diplomatic Mission of Romania in Afghanistan has died and another was seriously injured following a terrorist attack that occurred on Monday night in Kabul, Afghanistan, Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) has announced on Tuesday evening.
The injured Romanian citizen is to be transferred as soon as possible to Europe, depending on the evolution of the health status, in order to receive specialized medical assistance, says RRA News-Editor Carmen Gavrilă.
Head of Romania’s Diplomatic Mission in Kabul and Chief of Security Team within the Embassy have been evacuated in a military base nearby, and are now safe.
Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramona Mănescu, strongly condemns the terrorist attack and reiterates Romania's support in the fight against terrorism, in all its forms of manifestation.
According to Radio Romania Military Reporter Radu Dobriţoiu, this is the second Romanian serving in a diplomatic mission who has been killed in Afghanistan. In April 2011, a Romanian employee of the United Nations, Filaret Moţco, former military officer in the Romanian Army, was shot.
Romania participates in the NATO mission in Afghanistan with 762 soldiers. 27 Romanian soldiers have been killed and dozens more have been injured since the Romanian Army has started to attend NATO missions in Afghanistan.
