Thousands of Romanians living abroad have entered Romania these days to attend an anti-government protest scheduled for Friday, 10 August, in Bucharest’s Victoriei Square, where the Romanian Government premises are.
According to RRA Reporter Alexandru Lancuzov, protesters came with flags, tents, caravans and sound systems. There are a lot of police forces on the sidewalks in the area and at road intersections, and gendarmes carry out brief checks for those who carry oversized luggage. This morning, Police has also made a preventive pyrotechnic check on cars parked in Victoriei Square.
Romanian Gendarmerie will also be present in Victoriei Square during the protest. They said they would not tolerate any violent attitudes and manifestations, and recommended participants to have a civilized behavior, to respect the law and the instructions of the police and gendarmes, to avoid conflicts of any kind.
Romanians in the diaspora are unhappy with the way the government and the PSD-ALDE ruling coalition are running things and want the Prime Minister to resign. They are also dissatisfied of the high corruption, incompetence of public officials and the fact that they cannot live decent lives in their country of origin.
Similar demonstrations are planned in other Romanian cities and severeal European cities with large Romanian communities.
