Romanian Minister of National Defense, Mihai Fifor, is attending, on Wednesday and Thursday, the meeting in Brussels of his counterparts from NATO Member States.
First day of the meeting will focus on nuclear deterrence policy and planning, fair sharing of responsibilities, as well as Alliance modernization, institutional adaptation and NATO command structure, Romanian Ministry of Defense (MApN) states in a press release.
Wednesday’ working dinner, with the participation of the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, will be dedicated to issues related to European Defense and NATO-EU co-operation.
Second day of the meeting will discuss application of the decisions previously made at the Warsaw and Wales Summits on the posture of defending and discouraging, and the dimension of stability planning and the fight against terrorism.
Minister Mihai Fifor has scheduled a meeting with the US Defense Secretary James Mattis, according to statements made by the Romanian Defense Minister at Radio Romania News:
"I will meet US Secretary of State for Defense, Mr. James Mattis. I have requested this meeting because there were lots of things that have been said about the allocation of 2% of the Gross Domestic Product (for the Defense, n.a.) and about how this money was spent in 2017. I had a correspondence with Mr. Mattis, and at the end of last year, I have presented him how Romania has fulfilled the obligations it has assumed. I want to tell you that in the relationship with the USA, Romania is a highly appreciated and respected partner".
