Romanian defense industry companies could increase production capacity to support Ukraine

Romania is among the 11 countries identified by the European Commission where there are companies from the defense industry that could increase their production capacity in order to support Ukraine - said the European commissioner for the internal market, Thierry Breton.
On Wednesday, he visited two of the ROMARM factories together with the Minister of Economy, Florin Spataru.
The countries of the European Union have pledged to support Ukraine in its defense effort against Russian aggression and are determined to uphold this commitment.
That's why we have to make sure that we can supply the equipment and ammunition that Ukraine needs - said on Wednesday, after the visit to two factories in Dambovita county belonging to ROMARM, the European commissioner for the internal market, Thierry Breton.
Thierry Breton: We have identified 15 companies from 11 European countries that can respond to this requirement to improve the production capacities we need, and Romania is one of these states. Together with the Minister I visited two factories in the defense industry, which are very interesting, and I want to tell you that I was impressed by the dedication of the people, their skills, but, of course, also the equipment.
For his part, the Romanian Minister of Economy, Florin Spataru, stated that they talked about the European support that the Romanian industry can obtain, in such a way that it can contribute to the reconstruction effort of Ukraine, but also about the part related to the military industry.
Florin Spataru: The investments in the defense industry, those that have already been allocated through the national state budget, the 800 million lei, but also the following investments in partnership with countries or the European Commission, will represent the basis of the development of the defense industry. We have prepared solutions both for the powder factory and for the production lines, both from Plopeni and from Dragomiresti.
Florin Spataru also specified that analyzes have already been made, that there are preliminary offers and that part of these investments could be financed either through partnerships with other European companies, or from funds from the European Union, allocated to increase these production capacities.
