Romanian Army Endowment Plan for 2017-2026 has been adopted, today, by the Supreme Council of Country’s Defense (CSAT), also the appointment of Maj.Gen.Eng.Ionel-Sorinel Vasilca as the Director of the Special Telecommunication Service (STS).
On the CSAT meeting from July 4th, the Army's Endowment Plan had been withdrawn from the agenda, because at the time, there were no references on the political agreement to allocate 2% of GDP for the Defense.
The amended document that has been presented today to the Romanian President implies multiannual planning in line with the provisions of the Romanian Armed Forces Endowment Strategy and the Program on the Transformation, Development and Endowment of the Romanian Armed Forces by 2026 and beyond.
In May, the Romanian Parliament approved initiation of the procedures for the awarding of related contracts targeting eight programs that exceed 100 million euros each.
To achieve these 9.8 billion-euro multiannual funded programs, there will be the involvement of the national defense industry, which needs to modernize and develop adequate military production capacities.
As for the Special Telecommunication Service (STS), the President of Romania suggested the Council and the Council approved the dismissal of the current STS Director, General Marcel Opriș, and of his Deputy.
At the suggestion of President Klaus Iohannis, CSAT approved the appointment of Major General Engineer Ionel-Sorinel Vasilca as the new Director of STS.
He previously held the position of STS Technical Deputy Director.
