Several hundred people, actors and other employees of Romanian National Theater and other theaters in the capital, protested on Sunday night in Bucharest’s Victoriei Square, against budget cuts that led to resignation of technical staff which is very important for the performance, and to wage-pay delays.
Among actors who went out on the streets were renowned Ion Caramitru and Victor Rebengiuc. "I am certain that there is money for Culture, I can not believe there isn’t”, said Ion Caramitru. "I'm curious to find out who is responsible for the fact that Romania is now out of money. Culture has always been underpaid, always under 1% of the GDP”, added Victor Rebengiuc.
Protesters call on authorities to allocate the needed funds which are essential for cultural institutions to continue their work in a decent manner.
