Romania will join the Global Offshore Wind Alliance, which promotes the production and use of wind energy, under the auspices of the International Renewable Energy Agency.
The government approved on Wednesday the association that aims to increase the share of renewable energy sources in final consumption and gradually abandon coal.
According to a World Bank study, Romania's potential for offshore wind resources in the Black Sea region is 76 GW.
In order to become a member of the alliance in the field, Romania must establish a national strategy regarding offshore wind energy - it is stated in a press release from the executive.
