Romania is scheduled to hold the European Union Council Presidency in January-June 2019, reason why the Romanian Minister Delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu has met with the diplomatic staff of the Permanent Representation of Romania to the European Union.
Romania's first Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2019 represents a major challenge, but also an excellent opportunity for our country, Negrescu said during the meeting that was organized by Prime Minister Mihai Tudose.
Victor Negrescu: "We are ready to hold this Presidency in 2019.
This is the reason we had this meeting with our diplomatic representatives in Brussels, practically with all of our colleagues who work for the Romanian Representation to the European Union.
They came to Romania, they discussed with almost half of the members of the Romanian Government about the national priorities for this Presidency, about what we should do to organize this Presidency properly. I personally talked to each of our colleagues, to make sure that they truly understand the importance of this moment for Romania, that they understand their role and that we can define as clearly as possible the working procedures and the way in which each colleague will be involved in order to have an efficient, succesful Presidency".
Other topics addressed included dialogue with the European institutions, in order to identify ways to cooperate with them more effectively.
Romania will assume for six months starting January 1, 2019 the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, one of the seven main institutions of the EU.
