Romania "will continue to support actions and policies aimed at combating climate change"

The implementation of the Green Pact and Romania's accession to the Schengen area were the main topics addressed during the talks at the Cotroceni Palace, between president Klaus Iohannis and the executive vice-president of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans. Oana Bala reports.
Reporter: President Klaus Iohannis told the executive vice-president of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, responsible for the European Green Pact, that Romania will continue to support actions and policies aimed at combating climate change. The head of state also presented the efforts of Romania in terms of reducing polluting emissions, but also its position for maintaining a balanced energy mix, emphasizing the importance, and role, of nuclear energy and natural gas in ensuring the green energy transition.
For his part, the high European official emphasized the importance of Romania's use of all European instruments and funds for investments in the green economy and ensuring the climate transition. Frans Timmermans expressed his appreciation for Romania's support to both Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova and, on the other hand, conveyed the firm support of the European Commission for Romania's accession to the Schengen area.
