RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - Romania will activate on Tuesday the Civil Protection Mechanism of the European Union in order to purchase the tocilizumab medicine, used to treat COVID cases.
The head of the Department for Emergency Situations, Raed Arafat, says that this is a medicine whose supplier cannot supply the necessary quantities, and Romania has stocks for only two or three weeks.
He also announced that against the background of the increasing pressure facing the medical and emergency system, it was decided to suspend the operations and hospitalizations of non-covid patients who do not represent emergencies, for 30 days.
The measure does not apply to pregnant women, cancer patients or those on dialysis.
Raed Arafat added that the staff of the emergency units will be supplemented with resident doctors and that there will be 12-hour shifts at hospitals with a shortage of staff.
