Host: Mira Gombos - Romania has one of the lowest greenhouse gas emission rates per capita in the European Union - said in Glasgow, President Klaus Iohannis. He showed that from 1989 to 2019 Romania's emissions decreased by 64%. During the same period, Romania also reduced the intensity of its carbon dioxide emissions. Klaus Iohannis also mentioned that Romania will take additional measures to reach the European target of reducing gas emissions by 55% by 2030.
Host: Carmen Gavrila: President Klaus Iohannis announced that from 2030 Romania will host the center of the World Meteorological Organization, which will help Europe's agricultural systems to better respond to climate change.
Klaus Iohannis: There is no silver bullet to eliminate climate change, but a set of interconnected measures can help us. We will even use the force of nature. Romania has a considerable share of renewable energy, because 40% of our electricity comes from renewable sources. We want to expand this component. We will fight climate change through nature-based solutions, because we will use 57.000 hectares of new forest, funded by the National Recovery Plan, to retain carbon and combat desertification.
Reporter: Romania produces electricity from sources considered renewable in Europe, but also through nuclear power plants, with a network it wants to expand, but so far the Union has not clearly classified nuclear energy as clean energy and therefore does not finance.
