Romania succeeded on Thursday, 21 February, to unlock one of the toughest legislative dossiers at European level, Copyright in the Digital Single Market.
Directive was validated by the Member States at the meeting of the Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper).
Agreement with the European Parliament had previously been obtained by Romania’s EU Council Presidency, and marks an important step in modernization of copyright rules.
Valer-Daniel Breaz, Romanian Minister of Culture and National Identity: European citizens will have access to a richer offer of online cultural content and educational materials, and to reliable and quality news. Directive will have a positive impact on a wide range of actors; for example, press editors, cultural and educational institutions, artists, performers, creative and cultural professionals. Content is balanced and ensures fair remuneration for copyright holders and takes into account the interests of private users.
