Romania starts national forestation campaign
Objective is to plant more than 50 million seedlings this year and to reconstruct about 2,000 forests.

Romania’s Environment Ministry has launched a national forestation campaign, aiming to plant more than 50 million seedlings this year and to reconstruct about 2,000 forests.
Launching event for this campaign titled “A forest the size of a country” took place on Friday in Uliești, Dâmbovița county and has been attended by President Klaus Iohannis, Prime Minister Ludovic Orban, Finance Minister Florin Cîțu and Environment Minister Costel Alexe.
“It is unacceptable to still have massive illegal logging in the 21st century”, said President Iohannis Woodcutting must be done “in an organized and legal manner”, Head of State added, urging the Prime Minister to find new tools to protect forests in Romania.
