Romania’s National Under 21 Football Team has qualified on Monday for the semifinals of the European Championship in Italy and for the Tokyo Olympic Games scheduled for next year, after a spectacular performance.
Mirel Rădoi's team won Group C after defeating Croatia 4-1 and England 4-2 and a goalless draw against France.
Several Romanian players have made quite an impression at the Euro 21, including talented midfielder Ianis Hagi, son on Romanian football legend Gheorghe Hagi, strikers George Puscas and Florinel Coman, and goalkeeper Ionut Radu, team captain. Romanians have again shown confidence and have not allowed their opponents to dangerously threaten the goal defended by Radu.
For the European Championships, Romania will meet title holder Germany on Thursday, in Bologna, starting with 19:00.
Last time Romania qualified for the Olympic Games was also in Tokyo in 1964, when they made it to the quarterfinals. This will be Romania's fourth participation in the Olympic Games in football, after 1924, 1952 and 1964.
