Minister Angel Tilvar participated on Tuesday, November 14, at the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council (CAE) in the format of defense ministers from the EU member states, which took place in Brussels, in which context he assured that Romania will support Ukraine "firmly" and "constantly", conveys Agerpres.
According to the Ministry of National Defense, Tilvar reconfirmed the support assumed by Romania, including on the training level, presenting, in the context, an information regarding the opening of the European F-16 Training Center in the country. It will have as its priority the training of Romanian pilots, but it will also be open to allied and partner states, including Ukraine.
"Our support for Ukraine is firm and constant. It is important to remain focused on the Black Sea region and to maintain unity in terms of supporting Ukraine", the Romanian minister said.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the ministers from the European Union participated in a working breakfast with the Secretary General of NATO. The debates focused on the efforts of the two organizations in the line of resilience, especially regarding the protection of critical infrastructure. Thus, the progress achieved in the operationalization of the EU-NATO dialogue on this subject was highlighted.
The Romanian official also pleaded for the deepening of EU-NATO cooperation and coordination in support of partners, especially for the Republic of Moldova, a state facing hybrid security threats.
The main topic of discussion at the meeting was the EU's support for Ukraine, in the context of the Russian Federation's war of aggression. Long-term support was addressed, from the perspective of adapting current instruments, such as the European Peace Facility, in order to respond in a structured manner to the requirements of the Ukrainian partner and to reaffirm the EU's determination to support it, states the ministry.
