Romania's population is declining. According to the latest statistics, on January 1, 2021 it was under 19.2 million people, with over 142 thousand less than on January 1, 2020.
The main cause is the negative natural increase, the number of deceased people exceeding the number of births by over 120 thousand people, according to the National Institute of Statistics. The urban population, as well as the female population are the majority, representing 53.6, respectively 51% of the total.
With a ratio of 124 elderly people to 100 young people under 15, the phenomenon of demographic aging continues to increase, transmitted our reporter Iulian Olescu.
