Host: Romania's debt ratio is below 50%, one of the lowest in the European Union, says Prime Minister Florin Citu. The head of the executive was in Bacau two days ago, where he specified that Romania borrows at an interest rate lower than economic growth and does so only for investments.
Florin Citu: First of all, Romania's indebtedness is below 50%, at the moment. It is one of the lowest in the European Union and, even if it reaches 50%, it still remains among the lowest in the European Union. The level of indebtedness increased for all countries in the world last year, when deficits increased. The loans that Romania makes today go to cover a budget deficit, a budget deficit that in the past, in the time of the PSD, was also covered by loans, but with a difference now: we borrow cheaper. And there is another difference, we only borrow for investments. This year is the first year in which Romania borrows only for investments. Moreover, we borrow at a lower interest rate than economic growth, which means we can pay off these debts. Also, we borrowed at a negative interest rate last week. This means that we give less money back than we borrowed, which means that these investors trust Romania, they trust this government and they trust the government program.
