Romania succeeded to obtain political consensus between EU Member States or in relations to the European Parliament in over 40 major legislative dossiers on the EU Agenda, in only one and a half month since taking over the EU Council Presidency.
Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU has intensified negotiations on legislative and non-legislative files, taking into account that the European Parliament, which is co-legislator, is working only until April and the current European Commission closes its mandate in the autumn.
Most recent issue on which Romania has managed to reach an agreement with the European Parliament is the regulation on which the European Labor Agency is being set up, to help Member States implement EU law on labor mobility and to coordinate social protection.
Also, Romanian EU Council Presidency has reached an agreement with the European Parliament on new rules related to gas transport infrastructure in and out of the EU. In addition, under the leadership of Romania, the ambassadors of the Member States to the Union agreed on a new pension scheme already approved by the European legislature.
Also, after two years of blockage in negotiations, Romanian EU Council Presidency managed to reach an agreement on a draft directive on the controversial issue of copyright so as to strengthen the single European digital market.
