Romania registered the highest annual inflation in Europe
For the tenth consecutive month, in May 2011, Romania registered the highest annual inflation rate in EU, namely 8.5 percent.

For the tenth consecutive month, in May, Romania registered the highest annual inflation rate which was 8.5 percent according to the data advertised on Thursday by Eurostat.
Romania is followed by both Estonia which registered an annual inflation rate of 5.5 percent and by Lithuania with a 5.0 percent annual inflation rate.
In the Euro zone, the annual inflation rate decreased from 2.8 percent, in April, to 2.7 percent, in May, and in the European Union it decreased from 3.3 percent, in April, to 3.2 percent, in May.
However, in 2011, in Romania, the annual inflation rate increased from 8.4 percent, in April, to 8.5 percent in May.
According to the figures advertised by Eurostat, the countries that registered the lowest inflation rate were Ireland (1.2 percent), Sweden (1.7 percent) and Czech (2.0 percent).
Moreover, regarding the total average price increase which is about 7.5 percent, Romania has been on the top in EU for the last twelve months and is being followed by Greece which registers a 4.8 percent prices boost and Estonia with 4.5 percent.
In Ireland (minus 0.2 percent), Sweden (1.5 percent) and Holland (1.6 percent) prices decreased.
