RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - Romania received 5.060 doses of vaccine against monkeypox, based on a donation contract concluded between the Ministry of Health and the European Commission.
The vaccines will be directed to the infectious disease hospitals in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Timisoara and Constanta, which, in turn, can transfer doses to other county health or infectious disease units, at their request, when the situation requires it.
The people targeted for vaccination are those who have come into direct contact with cases of infection.
It is recommended that the vaccine be administered as soon as possible after the time of exposure, between four and fourteen days, and a second dose at an interval of twenty-eight days is required to complete the basic immunization.
If the first dose is not administered within the mentioned interval, it is possible that the vaccine will not prevent the disease, but the severity of the symptoms is reduced - informs the Ministry of Health.
