Romanian Ministry of National Defense, through National Office for Heroes' Cult (ONCE), has proposed to the Hungarian Defense Ministry and Hungarian Institute and Museum of Military History the organization of a working meeting on June 24-28 in Bucharest, to analyze and discuss issues of common interest in the field of military cemeteries (war graves and war memorial works), on the basis of the Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of Hungary regarding the Legal Regime of Hungarian War Tombs in Romania and Romanian War Tombs in Hungary, signed on March 6, 2008. Romanian Ministry of National Defense now awaits Hungary's reply – states a press release from Romanian Ministry of National Defense (MApN).
Romanian Ministry of National Defense considers that the dialogue of ONCE with counterpart institution in Hungary should also address the Heroes Cemetery of the Uzu Valley (Romania) / Valea Uzului, in order to identify the appropriate solutions, starting from the principle assumed by both sides when signing the intergovernmental agreement, according to which soldiers and civilians who have lost their lives as a result of military actions during the two world wars have the right to dignified eternal resting places, which is also stated in international humanitarian law and the principles of the Treaty of Understanding, Cooperation and Good Neighborhood between Romania and the Republic of Hungary, signed in Timișoara on 16 September 1996.
