Romania officially takes over, on Thursday, January 10, 2019, the six-month rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union. On this occasion, an inaugural concert will take place on Thursday on 20:00 pm, at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest, in the presence of high EU officials.

Romania has to manage important dossiers on the EU Agenda, such as the European Union's future budget, Brexit, elections for the European Parliament, Common Agricultural Policy and Cohesion Policy.

As Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă reaffirmed on Wednesday, Romania is ready to hold the EU Council Presidency and the Government aims to promote consensus in all EU files on the Agenda.

RRA Reporter Andrei Şerban: "On Thursday evening, at 20:00, an inaugural concert for the Romanian Presidency at the EU Council is scheduled at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest.

Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă, European Parliament President Antonio Tajani, European Council President, Donald Tusk and European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker will deliver speeches on this occasion.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă reaffirmed that the Romanian Executive will be a facilitator of consensus and reminded the objectives of the Romanian Presidency at the EU Council.

These relate to the new challenges the EU Member States face, but also to the strengthening of the European project.

Viorica Dăncilă: "I assure you that we will fulfill our role as an impartial mediator, that we will set as priorities the challenges at European level - I refer to Brexit, the future of the EU after Brexit, Euro-parliamentary elections, Multiannual Financial Framework, Cohesion Policy and traditional EU policies, but also new challenges related to foreign policy, migration, terrorism, asylum policy".

On Friday, 11 January, European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker, and members of the College of Commissioners will meet with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.

Head of State will emphasize that Romania wants to exercise a successful mandate, to reach concrete results and to contribute to the advancement of the European agenda.
