Romania "no longer complies with the rule of law"

President Traian Basescu says he is worried that the European Commission's report in December, Romania could have a mention that it no longer complies with the rule of law.
President Traian Basescu argues that politicians must prove liability for Romania to receive a positive report from the European Commission in December.
The head of State declares worried that the latest report on the Cooperation and verification mechanism raises important questions relating to respect for the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary in Romania.
Many other statements refers to ANI and to the Ombudsman, but at the recommendations chapter the European Commission insists on rule of law, says Traian Basescu.
"The most important step is that the Government and the essential institutions of Romania to demonstrate commitment to the essential cornerstones of the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary," said President Traian Basescu.
He replied so some politicians who accused him in yesterday's speech would be slander the rule of law and would be involved in the electoral campaign.
The President said that as long as the most recent report of the European Commission speaks of drifting from the values the rule of law, the future report-the December-may include a mention that Romania does not comply with the political criteria of Copenhagen.
In this respect the head of State asks politicians to prove liability, arguing that the populace would suffer if it is not respected the rule of law.
