Romania celebrates today Heroes Day, that by law has been proclaimed the same day with orthodox religious feast Ascension of Jesus Christ Day, and Ministry of Defense has organized military and religious ceremonies in all major garrisons across the country.
Heroes Day began on Wednesday evening with an impressive parade in the city of Buzău, where officials, military and ambassadors and politicians joined over 6,000 citizens and about a thousand militaries from seven European countries to the torch retreat, in a rhythm of fanfare and cadenza. Ceremonies started in Buzău due to the fact that more than 9,600 heroes of several nationalities are buried in this city's cemetery.
In Bucharest, military and religious ceremonies took place at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, located in Carol I Park, also in the Youth Park, in front of the Monument of the Military Heroes who were killed in missions, in theaters of operations and on Romanian territory; at the Homeland Heroes Monument, in front of the Carol I National University, and the Revolution Heroes Cemetery.
Heroes Day is celebrated each year with parades, wreath laying, religious services, bell ringing and moments of silence, all across Romania, as a sign of gratitude for all those who lost their lives on the battlefield, to defend the nation.
