Romania celebrates on 9 May the State Independence Day, Victory Day in the Second World War and Europe Day.
President Klaus Iohannis offers a reception at the Cotroceni Palace where over 700 people are invited, including former Heads of State, the Prime Minister, ministers, parliamentarians, ambassadors and representatives of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
At national level, this day is also marked by cultural and artistic events. In Bucharest, the National Romanian Literature Museum organizes an event where "The most beautiful stories written by teenagers" will be awarded, while the Bucharest General City Hall, through ARCUB, brings to the Izvor Park artists of the moment, in a Europe Day anniversary concert.
Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă: Romania has consistently identified itself on a pro-European path, Romania has strengthened the democratic foundations and has modernized society and economy, and Romanian citizens fully share the fundamental European values.
Head of the European Commission Representation in Bucharest, Angela Cristea, in a statement for Radio Romania Actualități said that „Romanians’ standard of living has steadily grown after Romania’s accession to the European Union 11 years ago”. However, she said, „Romania needs to make further efforts to lift the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism in the field of Justice”. Angela Cristea also talked about joining the Schengen Area, free movement, and the Eurozone. „European Commission is determined to support Romania, including with European funds, in its work to be done by 2024, the target date for joining the Eurozone”.
