The European Commission announced that Romania may request the secondment of medical teams from European Union countries through the Civil Protection Mechanism, in order to deal with the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement given to Lucian Balanuta, from RADIO IASI, the spokesman of the European Commission, Balazs Ujvari, states that the executive from Brussels can mobilize help in support of the Romanian authorities in the fight against COVID-19, just as Romania supported Italy at the beginning of the pandemic crisis.
Balazs Ujvari: 50 oxygen concentrators were sent by Poland to Romania. We had 5.200 vials of monoclonal antibodies sent by Italy, as well as 15 fans and 8 oxygen concentrators sent by Denmark. In addition to this support from the Member States, the European Union has mobilized 200 oxygen concentrators from its own "rescEU" medical stock in the Netherlands. We can also facilitate a request for human resources, medical teams, as provided by Romania in the past to Italy during the initial crisis of COVID-19. We can also consider a request to transfer patients between member countries of the European Union.
