Romania, as a NATO member state, benefits from all security guarantees and is fully protected in case of a conflict in Ukraine, assures the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu.
The head of the Romanian diplomacy says that the authorities in Bucharest are in permanent contact with the Romanian citizens from Ukraine who will be defended in case of a military conflict. The foreign minister's statements were made after hearings in Parliament's specialized committees on security developments in the area.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has completed the repatriation procedure in Romania of the Embassy in Kiev's staff family members, which is also fully operational at the Consulate General in Odessa. The consular missions in Solotvino and Chernivtsi were not visited by this measure, because they are in regions with a higher degree of security, says the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu. The head of the Romanian diplomacy assured the parliamentarians that the authorities in Bucharest are in permanent contact with the Romanian citizens in Ukraine, but also with the representatives of the Romanian communities here, being prepared at any moment to offer the necessary help.
Bogdan Aurescu: No Romanian citizen should be afraid, afraid of Romania's involvement in a military conflict, because that will not happen. It is true that if the Russian Federation starts a military conflict against Ukraine, the security situation at European level in general will deteriorate even more, but at this time there is no danger of a military involvement of Romania or the North Atlantic Alliance.
The chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee in the Senate, Titus Corlatean, says that the opportunity of a statement by the Romanian Parliament regarding the security situation in the region and in Ukraine is being considered.
Titus Corlatean: There is a full resonance at government and parliament level regarding the way in which the Romanian state, in coordination with the European Euro-Atlantic allies and partners, with the United States, must act during this period of security challenges in a very close region to Romania.
Titus Corlatean also stated that the chairmen of the specialized commissions received an invitation from their counterparts in the Ukrainian Parliament for an official visit to Kiev.
