Romania and the United States will continue to cooperate in several areas, particularly in their security, energy investment and trade. This is the essence of the bilateral political dialogue that has been going on for over 20 years under the auspices of the Romanian-American Strategic Partnership.
Strategic Partnership between Romania and the USA was launched in Bucharest on July 11, 1997 - an essential part of Romania's foreign policy, but also an instrument for America to support Romania's political, economic, military and administrative reform efforts.
In its 21 years of existence, Partnership has proved successful in areas such as development of bilateral trade and investment, and expansion of scientific and education exchange programs.
Other important milestones of the Partnership were establishment of the current Deveselu anti-missile defense system, increased cooperation at Mihail Kogălniceanu Military Base near Constanța and fight against terrorism, cross-border crime and human rights violations.
Last year marked a strengthening of bilateral relations through the Washington-high-level dialogue between the Romanian and US counterparts. "We look forward to working together for the next 20 years of our strategic partnership", President Donald Trump said at the time.
Donald Trump: As you know, Romanians and Americans have many things in common: love of freedom, pride of their culture, rich traditions, and vast landscapes full of history. Relationship between our countries dates back over a century, but today we reaffirm and celebrate our strategic partnership in particular. This partnership includes many dimensions, including economic, military and cultural relations, and today we further strengthen these ties.
At their last bilateral meeting in Bucharest, Romania and the US reaffirmed their desire to continue cooperation as NATO allies, but also in the field of energy. There are expressed wishes to support investment, increase competitiveness, transparency, inter-connectivity in the energy, infrastructure and digital sectors.
