RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - Romania and Poland support the strengthening of NATO's Eastern Flank, including a larger number of Alliance soldiers, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda said in Bucharest.
In detail, RRA editor Andrei Serban: “President Klaus Iohannis considers that an increased military presence is needed in Romania and in the Black Sea region, as a strictly defensive response to Russia's aggression in Ukraine.
Klaus Iohannis: “We urgently need a consistent and balanced consolidation of the Eastern Flank, an advanced, united and strengthened presence. An increased, allied military presence is needed in our country and in the Black Sea region. A clear and necessary example in this regard is the creation of a NATO combat group in Romania as soon as possible."
The current situation requires a new strategic vision of NATO, said Polish President Andrzej Duda. He proposes a permanent defensive presence of NATO on the Eastern Flank.
Andrzej Duda: "Your Excellency, Mr. President, we need a new conception of NATO, and that is why this meeting of ours, before the two-day summit in Brussels, is so important. I spoke to the President today that, first and foremost, NATO's new strategic concept, which is now being developed, must take into account these changes, which were caused by the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine.”
The Presidents of Romania and Poland also supported the process of integration into the European Union of Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, and Georgia."
