Risks and consequences of drug use

The risks and consequences of drug use are the theme of a campaign organised by Radio Romania News in Romania and in the Republic of Moldova. Young people say that such actions are very useful for them, and that the support of those around them is indispensable.

Radio Chisinau's Victoria Cernea reports: "A young drug user participating in the event has been in remission for a year and a half and confesses that she had an addiction for several years, which she managed to overcome with the support of her family at a rehabilitation centre. She believes that this type of event should be organised for students from the age of 10 onwards.

"-: I started my life related to drugs and alcohol about four to five years ago, from 2019. I struggled with the real world and tried to somehow change it with banned substances. With the help of a family member, I ended up in a rehab center. Any drug addict or alcoholic needs to know that they have support and they just have to want it."

Students said that such communications are very helpful to them at this age. Scarlet Bejenari-Orzescu, from "Spiru Haret" High School in Chisinau, was impressed by the life story of a former addict presented to the young people at the event.

Scarlet Bejenari-Orzescu: "I already know the consequences. We've talked about drugs before, but it's something that's very important for young people, especially younger ones, who don't know yet."

In the last five years there have been about 500 new cases of drug use in Moldova, according to official data."
