Numerous trains carrying refugees from Ukraine arrive in Bucharest at the North Railway Station every day, and the volunteers present there to help manage the situation estimate the current flow at almost 300 people per hour.
CFR has supplemented the number of wagons for all the garrisons coming from the border areas transited by people fleeing the war.
The Bucharest Social Assistance Directorate, non-governmental organizations and ordinary citizens of the Capital constantly offer solutions for accommodation and food, but those involved point out that there is a great need for translators and call on the authorities to intervene to find solutions in this regard, our reporter Bogdan Isopescu transmitted.
He talked at the train station with one of the first volunteers there, Teodor Nemteanu, and he stressed that the presence of specialists in psychological counseling is also needed, saying that he witnessed dramatic situations:
Teodor Nemteanu: A young lady, mother, with a newborn baby, was breastfeeding. She also had a 3-4 year old child at her feet playing with her. On her phone, on video-call, there were very loud machine gun sounds and a very desperate voice shouting "ya tebya lyublyu, Marika". This man kept repeating this thing. The voice then stopped screaming, but The machine guns could still be heard. When I approached her, I saw that she was not actually breastfeeding. She was practically pulling out her breast to give him milk, but she had nothing to give. She burst into tears, it was clear she had left the country in despair. Those machine gunfire and that suddenly unheard voice scarred me. I sat for an hour and a half and cried like a child. The lady was counseled psychologically the next day and as far as I know, she was taken to a specialised center and from there, via Poland - Warsaw, by train.
