Remarks made by the President and Director General of the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation in the opening of the Media 2020 Conference.
Dear Dr. Javad Mottaghi, Distinguished Delegates, Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Colleagues,
We have here four continents, not only two, which is more than we expected. It is my pleasure and privilege to extend to you all a very warm welcome on behalf of the Radio Romania and to say how grateful we are to the ABU who have accepted our invitation to convene this remarkable event in Bucharest, for the first time outside the geographic area Asia Pacific.
Our deepest gratitude goes to Dr. Javad Mottaghi, the man who trusted us, the man who understood that Radio Romania is a reliable partner.
I would also like to thank all international media organisations who considered important to attend the Media 2020 Conference, COPEAM, EGTA, PBI, ASBU.
That we gather once again under the joint auspices of the ABU, EBU and Radio Romania is particularly appropriate and I consider these days an opportune time to renew contacts, to help build a prodigious bridge across continents.
This remarkable meeting brings together key representatives from Asia, Europe, Northern America and Australia on a timely topic of common interest that is the fast-changing media landscape.
I am amazed how much things have advanced in just the last few years. The theme of this event reflects growing recognition of the MEDIA power and importance of bringing accurate information to billions of people all over the world. By 2020 we expect the media landscape to change deeply, and the change is already underway.
Among these changes I would like to mention apps, mobile phones, tablets, hybrid platforms, which will continue to bring challenges to us and to content creators. This is a particular challenge for the media and for broadcasters, for social platforms, in order to create a more attractive, more interesting content for niche audiences, and especially for young audiences.
We need to be proactive in recognizing the challenges that we face every day, we need to exchange information and share experience, we need more of this kind of meetings whose commitments are palpable.
Over the next days, we have the opportunity - and indeed the responsibility - to prepare the landmarks on the way to the future of media. And now, with your permission, I would like to introduce Radio Romania to you.
Hoping that this presentation brought us closer to you, I thank you for your attention and I wish you all a successful meeting.
