Radio Romania Celebrates its Anniversary
Over time, Radio Romania has kept and honored its position as advocate of national and world culture.

On November 1st 1928 the words “Hello, this is Radio Bucharest” echoed for the first time in speakers all across Romania. The signature tune accompanied the first broadcast of the Romanian Radio and Telephony Broadcasting Corporation, as the public radio broadcaster was named in the official constitutive documents.
Over time, Radio Romania has kept and honored its position as advocate of national and world culture. Prominent figures in Romania, outstanding personalities of Romanian culture, scientists, politicians have spoken at the microphone along the years.
Their voices have been kept in the Golden Tape Library. 2010 marked the first step in the process of digitizing the Radio Archives, at present a national heritage preserving the voices of leading cultural figures in the history of Romania.
The public radio station has covered all the important events in the past 80 years that left an indelible mark in the country’s history. Radio Romania has also given wide coverage to major international events.
Today, Radio Romania boasts several national and international radio channels: Radio Romania News and Current Affairs, Radio Romania Culture, the Village Antenna and Radio Romania International. Radio Romania International has been broadcasting for over 70 years now and its shows are broadcast in Romanian and another 11 languages.
RRI programmes focus on information and commentaries and they address a wide-ranging public in terms of age, occupation and country of origin. Programs generally have a regular structure, while content is accessible to listeners with contrasting cultural backgrounds.
At regional level, Radio Romania boasts eight studios and a channel exclusively devoted to classical music. The Romanian public radio broadcaster also takes pride in the first Romanian channel to broadcast exclusively online, Radio3Net Florian Pittis, and in Kids Radio, the first online public channel devoted to children.
