Public authorities and institutions employ over 1.3 million people in Romania

In Romania, more than 1.3 million people were working in public institutions and authorities in October 2024, about 33.000 more than in the previous month - according to the Ministry of Finance.
The biggest increase was recorded at the Education Ministry - by almost 30.000 posts, which puts it at about 306.000 employees.
Next came the Interior Ministry - with 123.000 employees, down, however, and the Defense Ministry - with almost 80.000 posts, up 2.300.
The Ministry of Finance had about 24.000 employees and the Ministry of Health - almost 18.000, with decreases in both institutions. More than 64% of the filled posts were in central public administration, meaning 833.000 people.
