PSD and PNL validated their candidates for the European parliamentary elections yesterday, but the independent Ramona Chiriac, head of the European Commission Representation in Bucharest, who withdrew her candidacy, is no longer at the top of the list of 20 eligible positions. Both parties are keeping most of their current MEPs, but there are some new names. The list will be finalised next week.
Iulia Gherman: "PNL and PSD held separate meetings to validate the candidates who will be on the joint list of the two parties for the European Parliament elections. During these meetings, the head of the European Commission Representation in Romania, Ramona Chiriac, who would have opened the list, announced her withdrawal for personal reasons. The leader of the Social Democrats, Marcel Ciolacu, did not comment on this decision, but stressed that PNL and PSD have enough competent people to take the first place in the European Parliamentary elections."
Marcel Ciolacu: "Following the decision taken by Mrs Ramona Chiriac, I am firmly convinced that in the coming days I will see President Nicolae Ciuca and, as is normal, we will decide together how to move forward. My wish at this stage is that the lists will be opened by representatives of both parties."
For the other positions, on the PSD side, the joint list includes Mihai Tudose, Gabriela Firea, Claudiu Manda, Victor Negrescu, Vasile Dincu, Gheorghe Carciu, Dan Nica and Dragos Banea. The PNL candidates on the joint list for the Europarliamentary elections were announced by party president Nicolae Ciuca.
Nicolae Ciuca: "Rares Bogdan, Dan Motreanu, Adina Valean, Daniel Buda, Siegfried Muresan, Mircea Hava, Ghita Falca, Virgil Popescu."
The final decisions on the lists for the European parliamentary and local elections will be taken next week./editor Florin Lepadatu/
