According to an order issued by NAD, PDL deputy Dan Păsat is prohibited to leave the country until investigations in the file in which he is accused of blackmail are completed.
On his way out of the National Anticorruption Directorate, he stated that he had asked the prosecutors to send the file to court in order to begin the trial.
‘I’ve asked again the prosecutor to send my file to court and a restraint from leaving the country has been filed. Of course I will comply with this measure, it is my legal obligation to comply with it, I will not leave the country or get in touch with witnesses or defendants in the case. I have until now. I mean I met them only by chance’, Dan Păsat said.
Last week, the Chamber of Deputies rejected the NAD prosecutors’ request for detention and arrest of the PDL deputy, Dan Păsat, for blackmail.
In the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies rejected it by 116 votes for, 34 against and 4 invalid for the NAD request, by secret vote with balls.
For acceptance, the request would have needed a favorable vote expressed by half plus one of the present MP, respectively 147.
Before the voting procedure, PDL and the other parliamentary groups supporting the government have announced their vote in favour of the NAD request.
The opposition was present in the hall, but did not participate in the vote.
President Traian Băsescu argues that, after the vote given by the ruling coalition in parliament in the case of Liberal Democrat deputy Dan Păsat, he is no longer interested in whether the governing parties will sign or not an operating protocol.
President Traian Basescu stressed in an interview for the public television that the Liberal Democratic Party is the first responsible for the damage that has been done to the country.
On October 7, the NAD chief prosecutor submitted a request to notify the Minister of Justice to request the Chamber of Deputiesto approve the arrest and detention of deputy Dan Păsat.
According to NAD, the deputy was charged with three offenses of blackmail, similar to corruption offenses, consisting in conducting financial transactions incompatible with the position, the conclusion of financial transactions using information obtained in virtue of his position.
